Based on 1,625 reviewsBasaveshwar Khanavali (The Original) in Hubballi is widely appreciated for its authentic North Karnataka vegetarian cuisine, particularly its traditional dishes like jolad rotti, sambar rice, and the popular Holige. Customers frequently praise the wholesome and flavorful food that reflects the home-style dining experience, served in generous portions. The eatery’s modest setting and value-for-money pricing contribute to its charm, although the small space can get crowded, especially on weekends. Service is noted for its warmth and simplicity, enhancing the overall satisfaction. I love that Basaveshwara khanavali south Hubballi thali
Awesome place to taste the traditional jolad rotti uta. Personally we liked all the items which was served. Best place to try authentic north karnataka food. I completely loved it. Though the place is small n over crowded over weekend..its Worthe the wait.
I had a chance to eat at Basaveshwar Khanavali on my visit to Hubballi. The food is delicious. I loved the roti, subzi and sambar rice. The groundnut chutney served is very tasty. I purchased a box of it at the counter. The meal costs 150/- per plate and extra rotis are chargeable. With holige, it is 180/-. Overall a great place to have wholesome food.
Food is good and healthy !! North kannada style full course meal but doesn't meet the hype given by most people. But, I think it justfies the name, being a Khanavali (mess), food is what you come here for and it's what you get, forget the rest. A sumptuous serving of traditional dishes, reminding the folks of the good old full course meal. Jolada roti, podi, mosaru, salad, sprouts, pickle, etc. it's a blend of flavours and spices. It's also a good exercise for your stomach, helping in digestion. The dessert , olige, holige, obbattu is a traditional sweet stuffed roti served with a side of ghee is yummy. Ambience is not what you go here for. Service not what you look for. But if that's what you need then better stay away. Hygienic, but not quite strict about that I guess. Forget ambience and service, just enjoy the food. Indulge yourself in the good old traditional fullcourse north kannada style meal.
Despite being a tiny food joint, I thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of the good service and awesome Purana Poli aka Holigé. I also noticed others enjoying their meals and leaving the place with smiles and satisfaction. For me, that's the hallmark of a good food experience. Simple, humble, tasty, no fancy stuff, yet fulfilling and served with lots of pride and love.
We loved the traditional Jolada roti meal here which was amazing. We went in search of this place as it was established in 1963 and is considered one of the original places that started in Hubbali with this kind of concept. Loved the food and the minimalism along with great service / awesome ambience of legacy restaurants of India.
A taste of north Karnataka!! Authentic Hubballi Dharwad cuisine. Loved the holige . Service is great. They do have a branch in Bangalore near Anand Rao circle and the ingredients are sent from Hubballi to every night. A place to taste a different food for a regular Bangalorean. The hotel itself is a bit old style but adds to originality however the stairs and approach might seem a bit not up to the mark but worth the experience..
